About

  • I'm Jennifer Brea a writer, aspiring political scientist, and Afro-optimist. Currently, I'm a first-year graduate student in the Department of Government at Harvard University.

Africabeat used to be only about Africa. It's still *mostly* about Africa, but now, in an effort to simplify my online life, it's also about everything related to what I love: travel, politics, writing, academia, and the hope that we can do better.

No plans to change the name; that's still where my heart beats.

Books on Africa

Nice photo! :-) Are you going to Beijing? ...I find very interesting your site, and very useful for my thesis on China in Africa :-)

An African man comments on the China-Africa Summit in Beijing.

Hi Jennifer. I wanted to point out a recent post by Chippla (Chippla's Weblog), a Nigerian professional living in and writing from The Netherlands. I left a comment there and added a note that his readers should come over to your place to study your work as well. Here is the link to Chippla's latest piece:
http://chippla.blogspot.com/2006/11/china-africa-summit.html

I'm almost ready with my own post(s) about the summit... 22 pages of text. You think that I need to edit it a bit more before publishing to my blog?

BTW: Where did you find all of these great photos of the exhibits and posters?

Ornella - thanks for your comment and I am glad you find this site useful. You're welcome to use any of the photos you see here or on my Flickr site so long as you provide attribution. Also, I would love to read your thesis whenver you finish it.

Bill - I'm woefully behind in both reading and writing about the summit. However, I promise I will read and respond to your article in due time as well as write about some of the conversations and speeches I've been a party to. Better late than never? At any rate, this is certainly not a story that will go away any time soon.
